An exhibition of artwork inspired by the ‘Star Wars’ universe, in honour of Stuart Freeborn, the head special effects make-up artist of Star Wars, who was born in Leytonstone.

There will be a variety of artists showing their work inspired by Star Wars as well as various events over the time of the exhibit.
There will even be a raffle of some Star Wars tattoos and the proceeds will go to the Great Ormond Street Hospital fund as will much of the money raised by the sale of the art in general.

"“Purely by accident I discovered that Stuart was born in Leytonstone,“ says Elliott, excitement rising in his voice. “There were these stories about how he used to do make-up on himself and he’d ride around Leytonstone on his bike, looking to see if he’d get a reaction from people.

Following that I did an engraving of Yoda for the Leytonstone Arts Trail, as well as an article about Stuart. I was amazed by the number of people who showed an interest, and how few knew he was from Leytonstone.

“I’ve been overwhelmed by how many people have signed up to take part,“ says Elliot.

"There are at least 20 artists, Artefacto Bespoke Tattoo is running an exhibition in conjunction with the Stone Space show, and the Luna Lounge, next to the gallery, will be holding a Star Wars day on May 25, with a Star Wars-themed indoor market and fancy dress disco.

“It’s great, because May 25 will be 36th anniversary of Star Wars, the 33rd anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, and the 30th anniversary of Return of the Jedi.

“We’ll also be running workshops and talks at Leytonstone Library. (call Leytonstone Library on: 020 8496 1190 )"

Subtitled The Continuous Franchise, this Star Trek spoof is one that rewards patience - after the opening credits (and you adjust to the voices!) then you are in for a treat. The story? Kirk, Spock et al are ordered by the Federation to intercept an enemy vessel. Their brief is to stop internet piracy and to do this they must ensure that the aliens sever their wireless connection and surrender their hard drive.

As part of a relaunch for Germany’s Universal 13th Street (TV Channel), a revolutionary new film, The Witness, has been created in which you play an interactive, traveling roll. Using augmented reality on an iPhone, participants begin their adventure by witnessing a kidnapping by the Russian mafia. It’s then their job to track down the victim, finding clues, communicating with other participants and viewing other scenes on location around the city of Berlin. Much like the real life book series 'Choose Your Own Adventure', participants can both save the day or become the next victim themselves. Contestants can register at the site and on april 9 they can go into the city of Berlin to solve this crime!

iPad light painting

This film explores playful uses for the increasingly ubiquitous ‘glowing rectangles’ that inhabit the world.

We use photographic and animation techniques that were developed to draw moving 3-dimensional typography and objects with an iPad. In dark environments, we play movies on the surface of the iPad that extrude 3-d light forms as they move through the exposure. Multiple exposures with slightly different movies make up the stop-frame animation.

Video & Media Art - online collection

IMAI Inter Media Art Institute devotes itself to the distribution, preservation and presentation of video and media art. In 2006 IMAI was founded as a non-profit foundation upon the initiative of the City of Duesseldorf and the media art agency 235 MEDIA in Cologne.

At Art Cologne 2009, IMAI showcases video work in the Europa Saal of the Trade Fair Center. Imai is premiering La Plage (1967) / L’Opium (2008) by the Franco-American filmmaker and video artist Michel Auder. It will be screened at the vernissage and then daily from 3 pm. It will alternate with a daily programme of screenings drawn from the imai collection together with promising new video acquisitions.

The National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) invites research proposals from academics, performers, artists, audiovisual industry and archive professionals to draw fresh, innovative perspectives from the national audiovisual collection. Fellows will use the NFSA's collection to create a new sound or moving image work, a publication, an exhibit, a live audiovisual event or a combination of these and other approaches.

The Fellowships offer specially facilitated access and research into the national collection; close collaboration with NFSA curatorial and technical experts; access to the Library; modern accommodation; and a fully equipped work space provided on-site.

A tribute to graffiti art and the city where it all began. Blest, a 19-year-old graffiti writer, has just graduated from high school.
