Oddstream Festival - Nijmegen

Oddstream has a musical programme, art and multimedia installations, debates and lectures. The theme of the first festival edition of Oddstream is: love and conflict.

Oddstream is a communication and multimedia festival where the participation of the visitor and the interaction with the location of the festival plays an important role. It will take place between the 31st of May and 5th of June 2011 at the Vasim (a former factory) in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

We use the word participation as opposite of passivity and indifference. Oddstream brings and shows inspirational examples of participation from the arts, culture, communication and media together, let the visitors participate in the festival and doesn’t avoid the debate.

THE FESTIVAL TO BE AT THIS SUMMER

UPFEST 2011

- FREE ENTRY - - FREE ENTRY - - FREE ENTRY -
...
Europe’s largest free urban paint festival; Upfest, is now in its fourth year and is preparing to take over its cultural home Bristol by welcoming over 250 artists and 40 DJs, Groups & Human Beatboxers to the event this summer between 4th and 5th June 2011.

‘The Urban Paint Festival’ is now firmly established as the main event for street art in Europe. The two day explosion of events attracts urban artists from all over the world who flock to The Tobacco Factory - the festival’s birthplace, as well as a number of locations across the city.

Big names in national street art culture Don, Inkie and Spqr set up their temporary home alongside home grown talents Cheo, Jody and Lokey.

Upfest partner Stephen Hayles explains why this has become such an integral part of the UK graffiti scene:

“Bristol is established as the home of graffiti in the UK; the whole country and now even the world has attributed this to the City. We are proud to be a part of this movement and will continue to provide a platform for brand new artists to break onto the UK urban art scene. The fact that it’s free just makes it even more exciting.”

- STOP PRESS - STOP PRESS - STOP PRESS -

We can confirm that HERAKUT - JAGO - CASE will paint live at Upfest'11

- FULL ARTIST AND MUSIC LINE UP COMING SOON -

The festival helps raise funds and more importantly awareness for the Bristol based charity NACOA who work to address the problems children have growing up in families where one or both parents suffer from alcoholism. Upfest is a completely volunteer led festival and has so far raised £15,000 for the charity.

And finally... Did we mention it is FREE to Attend

Big Screen Graffiti - Bristol

http://www.vimeo.com/10348102

http://www.facebook.com/YrWall?v=wall

A collection of artists used Lumacoustics YrWall digital graffiti wall to create individual and detailed collaborative works which in turn were beamed onto an entire building using two state of the art projectors. YrWall allows users to create graffiti digitally using a modified spray can on a three metre wide screen.

The installation was part of the Bristol Festival 2009 that took place in the centre of Bristol on the 18th, 19th and 20th September. Artists were able to scroll around the buildings surface using the digital wall, zoom in on any part of the wall and paint their designs. Visitors to the festival saw everything created thanks to the enormous 290 square metre projections with projectors provided by Central Presentations Ltd. The projected images were mapped to the buildings surface using Lumacoustics custom software. Tom Hogan of Lumacoustics Limited said:

"It was breathtaking stuff as people were able to see these massive artworks take shape in front of their eyes."

"There have been laser pens used to digitally ‘tag’ the side of buildings but with this you can do full colour and detailed graffiti artwork. This is definitely a world first.”

Visitors not only had opportunity to paint on the building using the digital graffiti wall but also play with an added extra digital element. A Wiimote controlled virtual helicopter, modelled on a Avon and Somerset Police helicopter, could be flown around on the side of the building, highlighting the live painting with its simualted search light mounted on its nose. The system used cutting edge mapping techniques to make the helicopter appear undistored as it flew over parts of the buildings. It even correctly casted shadows where you’d expect, adding to the belief that this was a real helicoper.

Thanks to The Bristol Festival (thebristolfestival.org) for all their support, Central Presentations (cplav.com) for the projectors and rigging, Weapon of Choice (weaponofchoicegallery.co.uk) for bringing the artists down to paint, and PANTyRAID (pantyraidmusic.com) for the music.

Sweet Dreams - Adelaide

Building on the success of 2009’s ST5K festival, the Adelaide urban art community returns with Street Dreams. This four-day festival, running concurrently with the Format Festival during the Adelaide Fringe, is a celebration of all forms of street art and graffiti.

For the community at large, it is a chance to investigate and appreciate the work done by these artists. For the artists themselves, it’s a chance to feature their work, and to discover new legitimate spaces and unique methods in the art of getting over.

Artefact - New Media Festival

BEHIND THE IMAGE | THE IMAGE BEHIND
on covering and uncovering media

An exhibition, performances and concerts by artists with different backgrounds meet at the Artefact festival for media art.

Behind the Image | The Image behind (on covering and uncovering media) presents work that investigates what’s hidden or invisible behind images. . The technological and ideological/political dimensions are often strongly connected. A medium or technology can both cover and reveal by using the very same mechanisms, but images inevitably show and hide at the same time.

ARTEFACT is initiated by provincie Vlaams-Brabant

Dont Ban the Can

http://www.dontbanthecan.com/category/news/

Don’t Ban the Can (DBTC) is a non-profit arts and culture movement with an underground urban philosophy, formed as a result of harsh, unjust anti graffiti laws within Victoria, Australia. Jeremy Gaschk together with the We Make Stuff Good collective felt the need for a voice from the streets. Created and run by artists for artists, the movement began with a stand against the new anti graffiti laws introduced into Victoria in June 2008. With a successful initial event in September 2008, the project received support from tens of thousand’s of people from around the globe. DBTC has felt the need to expand into a world wide pro graffiti and street art movement. This has involved tackling issues that inhibit the art form’s culture, ethos and creativity to successfully prosper, evolve and expand.

The Croft Alley Project will bring together an all-star line up of artists from around Australia to create a world-class, large-scale, urban masterpiece. Using graffiti, street, stencil, sticker and paste up artists the project will transform the Croft laneway from a dirty back alley into a creative, colourful and socially innovative thoroughfare visited by tens of thousands of tourists each year.

"In this my most recent - and still ongoing - body of work, the themes of death, mortality and consciousness are revisited. Recurrent also are the negative sandwiching, inscription of scratches and the particular sequencing of the images, which encourages a conversation between the landscape and portrait."

"Ben Ali-Ong is going to be a major player in the photographic arena. At only 26 he has achieved a great deal in the way of prizes and awards for his work. He has participated in numerous group shows and has had six solo exhibitions in three years. For such a young artist he shows incredible focus and vision. Reface Street Art - Perth

At the heart of Re-Face is a website that allows established artists and unknowns, anyone who creates or experiences art, to share their work, their attitudes and their opinions about each other’s work and the value and the future of art in Western Australia.

In addition to the website that allows users to upload, view and comment on art from around Western Australia and the world, Re-Face takes the art to the public via two weekends of night-time projection exhibitions designed to challenge audience perceptions of art, street art and public space. How do people’s attitudes to street art change if the images are impermanent? And are people’s responses to everyday urban spaces made more vibrant?

The building-size projections are a mix of slideshows, interactive screens, curated collections and the backdrop for interactive panel discussions about art and public space.

Article: The Age

The collection includes such street-art luminaries as Marcsta (Marc de Jong), Dlux (James Dodd), HaHa (Regan Tamanui) and Vexta (Yvette Bacina). Their designs will be the focus of an exhibition at the NGA late next year. The 300 stencil designs by more than 30 artists explore the explosion in Melbourne's street art between the 1990s and 2004, before Melbourne City Council undertook a widespread graffiti clean-up operation before last year's Commonwealth Games.
