melbourne stencil festival 06

The preparations and planing for this years Stencil Festival are in full swing. This year we will not only celebrate stencil art in Melbourne but for the first time also stage a Stencil Festival in Sydney!

In Melbourne the festival has moved from North Melbourne to the vibrant cultural hub of Fitzroy and will be held at the Rose St. Artist Market (60 Rose St.) for five days from Thursday 18 to Monday 22 May 2006.

The Podcast Network produced two features at the Melbourne Stencil Festival. See a 25 min. flic shot at the Opening Night (with interviews, heaps of paintings etc) and a second part from the live spraying with an interview with Logan Hicks.

In Sydney the Pine Street Creative Arts Centre (64 Pine St.) in the inner city suburb of Chippendale will host the first Sydney Stencil Festival from Thursday 1 to Monday 5 June 2006.

European videobloggers will host an international conference of videobloggers to convene for nine days (9-18 September, 2004) in Amsterdam. They mean to show old media what's new in citizen journalism.

VlogEurope! begins during the IBC Conference (The World of Content Creation, Management & Delivery - http://www.ibc.org ) 9 - 11 September. Plans include press conferences and hands-on sessions that address all aspects of the creation and delivery of video for the web through videoblogging.

The balance of VlogEurope! offers people old and new to videoblogging opportunities to share experiences and discuss techniques. Daily afternoon sessions/talks will include practical advice on how to vlog, and theoretical discussions about the future of the personal media revolution that subscription-based Internet content delivery has created.

With participants from the world over, VlogEurope! ends with two days of videobloggers meeting videobloggers. The VlogEurope! finale includes a Saturday night gala, hours of videoblogging lovely Amsterdam, discussions about the future of the vlogosphere, and reflections on the 2005 conference toward future international / eurocentric conferences.

What makes videoblogging noteworthy is that it eliminates most significant barriers to media
creation and distribution. Based on the Wikipedia definition, a vlog (short for videoblog) is a blog (short for weblog) that uses video for its primary content, and is typically accompanied by supporting text and images that provide context for the video. Videoblogs often use RSS to syndicate their content to other web sites and aggregator software (RSS readers). With an aggregator, an individual may subscribe to RSS-enabled sites and as a result, the delivery of updated content is automated. With the advent of RSS technology it became possible for content creators to distribute media to larger audiences via the Internet. The recent podcast boom was directly related to RSS technology. Videoblogs take the next logical step into the compelling world of motion pictures.

Talkr is inviting bloggers to convert their text-only English-language blogs into podcasts using Talkr's free podcasting tool. The initial setup takes about 10 minutes, and the podcasts require no ongoing effort.

"Talkr takes text-only blogs and converts them into audio files," explains Chris Brooks, CEO of Talkr.com. "We then provide bloggers with tools to distribute these mp3 files as podcasts. However, we've always targeted a very narrow slice of bloggers, focusing on well-known blogs such as Jeffrey Zeldman and Corante."

"Now," continued Mr. Brooks, "we've decided to cast our net a bit wider. We are now inviting anyone with an English-language blog to create a podcast with Talkr."

Podcasting News has set up a live example of Talkr converting our RSS feed to a text-to-speech podcast.

Many companies have released podcast recording tools in the past several months. "Talkr is different" says Mr. Brooks. "Those other tools are great if you have the time and patience to install a new application and then record, host and distribute a podcast. However, many people don't have the time. If you already write a blog, Talkr will give you a podcast with little effort and zero cost."

Talkr allows anyone with an English language blog to create a podcast for free. Registration at the site is required.

What is podcasting?
It's a new way that triple j can automatically send you some of our radio programming to your portable device. To do this, you subscribe to the hack podcast by downloading a small piece of software that manages all of your podcast subscriptions. When connected to the internet, the software searches for the latest edition of the program on our website, and will download it to a folder on your computer, ready for when you next plug in your iPod or other portable device. This means that you don't have to manually search & download for new programs to download on this website. It happens automatically!

Having downloaded and tried out a few subscriptions, the process of downloading podcasts is greatly streamlined and I can't imagine I'll need to use iPodder or any other podcast-specific downloading software again in the near future."
