Oddstream Festival - Nijmegen

 

Oddstream has a musical programme, art and multimedia installations, debates and lectures. The theme of the first festival edition of Oddstream is: love and conflict.

Oddstream is a communication and multimedia festival where the participation of the visitor and the interaction with the location of the festival plays an important role. It will take place between the 31st of May and 5th of June 2011 at the Vasim (a former factory) in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

We use the word participation as opposite of passivity and indifference. Oddstream brings and shows inspirational examples of participation from the arts, culture, communication and media together, let the visitors participate in the festival and doesn’t avoid the debate.

From February 19th to May 16th 2010, la maison rouge presents Vinyl, an exhibition of records and covers compiled by the British collector, publisher and curator Guy Schraenen.

For more than 30 years, Guy Schraenen’s fascination with artists’ multiples (objects, catalogues, books, magazines) has led him to amass a unique and highly specialised collection on the theme of sound.

Vinyl shows LPs from an acoustic and visual angle to illustrate how artists from the 1920s and throughout the twentieth century have experimented with language and sound. The exhibition presents close to 800 albums alongside tapes, CDs, specialist magazines, reference books, catalogues and artworks.

Los Angeles CA & Ft. Wayne, IN – Director/animators Syd Garon and Paul Griswold, recently co-directed a music video for the band NASA (North America South America). The song, titled Money, features Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe winning singer/songwriter David Byrne and Chuck D, leader of the rap group Public Enemy. The album is produced by producer/DJ/composer Sam Spiegel of SqueakEClean and DJ Zegon.

The music video features artwork by contemporary artist and designer Shepard Fairey, who recently gained national notoriety for his design of the Barack Obama “Hope” campaign poster (which was recently parodied on the cover of MAD Magazine ). The song and video are both loosely based on the Bible verse “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil” and focuses on the devastation and destruction that can be brought on by unbridled greed and the pursuit of money at all cost. The video takes Shepard’s iconic artwork and animates it through a combination of 3D animation, 2D animation and digital compositing. The stunning creative design and the use of cutting-edge motion graphics animation has created a video with incredible visual impact.

Celebrate the creativity of the 'youth of today' at the City of Sydney's annual smARTarts Festival on Saturday 4 April.

smARTarts is Sydney's funkiest one-day arts and cultural festival event produced by young people through the City's Pine Street Creative Arts Centre. It is the City's flagship community youth event.

"smARTarts gives creative young people the opportunity to share their talents with the wider community," Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP said. In its fourth year, smARTarts is part of National Youth Week which runs from 28 March - 5 April 2009.

This year's event will feature two stages of live music and dance, open mic sessions, free workshops, design art markets, stencil art and food stalls.

Recreate our urban landscape!

We are seeking to fund visual artists who are undertaking projects delivering free art outdoors or in prominent indoor public spaces. Our intention is for these art pieces to become a form of social commentary, communication, and inspiration, between the artist and the general public. The art must be made available at no cost to the observer and be displayed with consent from the management of the required public space.
