Wildflower
Territory band Wildflower have been chosen by JJJ to be on their list of Next Crop acts this year.
Throughout the day on 12 November (that's this Sunday!) JJJ will be featuring their new song Galiwin'ku. They will also pod-cast an extended interview with the band and get a profile up on JJJ Aus Music Month website. Check it out www.abc.net.au/triplej/events/ausmusicmonth_06/next_crop/.
About Wildflower
Wildflower are a group of eight guys and girls aged between 16 and 22 from an outstation near the Oenpelli community in Arnhem land, next to Kakadu National park. One of the unusual things about Wildflower is that four of the members are girls... which is pretty uncommon in Indigenous music. Recently Ronan Sharkey met up with some of the band and a couple of their relatives in Oenpelli. Listen to their Hack MP3: www.abc.net.au/triplej/hack/notes/s1727705.htm
Wildflower have also released a debut DVD single Galiwin'ku which has been broadcast on Rage and on Austar through Aurora Community TV. Next year Wildflower will feature in a TV and multi media documentary in conjunction with AFC and ABC TV called Fangin' The Combi.

"The confidence in the girls to stand up proudly and sing to an audience, (a role that has been traditionally been played out by many male groups only throughout the NT) is exhilarating", said a member of the audience at their debut Darwin performance at Brown's Mart, Darwin on Feb 3rd 2006.
They are not imitating hip hop or rap, or dance, which many groups are now doing, but Wildflower follow in the footsteps of their uncles and fathers from the well known Indigenous rock band Nabarlek, adding their own blend of singable melodies and hook lines with a glowing sparkle.
